The Sustainability Report: Eminé Mehmet

In this new series, which we’ve called The Sustainability Report, our Sustainability Editor Eminé Mehmet gives her views on the state of progress in the push for greater responsibility by architects, designers and property industry players towards sustainable design of our buildings. Eminé will report monthly on trends, developments, products and projects of interest in this field.

Eminé believes Sustainability should be easily accessible to everyone, not just the experts. Focusing on ‘spreading the word’, Eminè helps decipher the green maze, bringing it back to ‘grass roots’ level through colourful and practical formulas. With a long career in Interior Design, she has worked for companies such as developer Meriton Apartments in Sydney and Queensland and International Architecture and Design Firm, Woods Bagot, in Sydney and Canberra.

Eminè is the founder of The Big Shift Sustainable Design Competition, developed to create innovation in functional interiors using sustainable products. Her communication focus also led her to create Sustainable Design Principles Event (SDPE), an annual event aimed at engaging and educating the design and construction industry on sustainable design and products.

Her wide experience has earned her the status of Green Star Accredited Professional and Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia. Eminè’s contribution to the design industry also includes being President of the Design Institute of Australia NSW Council. In November 2013, she was appointed Ambassador for The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife. She has appeared on television programs including “Bright Ideas”, Channel 10 and “Home” on the Lifestyle Channel. Spreading the message of sustainable living, her writing has featured in Grand Designs Australia Magazine and Luxury Home Design Magazine. Eminè has spoken at many events including Grand Designs Australia Live and the HIA Sydney Home Show.
