THE DREAM OF PERFECTION is as extraordinary as its provocative subject matter, the dramatic story of the building of the Sydney Opera House, culminating in Utzons departure from the project. Director John Weiley was commissioned in 1968 to make the documentary Autopsy on a Dream by then BBC2 controller David Attenborough, and following its only screening on the BBC, it was destroyed literally chopped to pieces on the chopping block. Miraculously, a mute print of Autopsy on a Dream was rediscovered in a BBC vault this year, and has now been restored with sound saved by John Weiley, and with a new prologue. The film features interviews with David Attenborough, Jan Utzon, Lin Utzon, and Richard Neville.

Episode 58: WAF 2014 James Grose BVN

James Grose is the National Director of BVN. He has worked across a full range of project types and scales, including the Brain and Mind institute at the University of Sydney and the Kinghorn Cancer Centre project. In the 1980s, he started his own practice together with his wife Nicola Bradley, focusing mainly on residential architecture. In 1998, they merged their firm with BVN, in order to tackle larger projects. Eight years later, James Grose was appointed as the National Director ofBVN. Since then, he has completed several award-winning projects.

Jan caught up with him at this year’s World Architecture Festival to talk about the kind of projects BVN takes on, and their current and future plans.
