Episode 126: Take It To The Bank - Jackson Fitzroy-Kelly

Take it to the bank is an award-winning home in Brighton designed by JFKDESIGN. This one bedroom + study apartment also includes a ground floor studio and office cunningly tucked in behind the heritage bank building on Martin St. The exterior showcases a restrained palette of concrete, steel galls and black zinc – crisp, clean and sleek. Inside the luxurious interior is a robust mix of spotted gum blended with exterior elements. Custom designed blown-glass pendants by artist Laurel Kohut bring bursts of colour into the home. Rock City Building, VM Zinc, Big River Timbers and Toucan Forged Glass did an outstanding job building this refreshing piece of architecture.

A brilliant integration of old with new structure that is creatively articulated. The combination of spotted gum and glass used both practically and aesthetically make this a very liveable home. The spotted gum applied to floors, walls and cabinetry throughout is warm and textured, making this a comfortable home. The artful use of glass in both slump and blown forms allows light to bathe these interiors while defining the spaces. A truly innovative incorporation of indoors spaces that have been considered in both detail and material make this residential interior a worthy winner of the BDAV 2016 Building Design awards.
